Written in 1963, Man and Boy is the story of a ruthless businessman who is under investigation for his practices, and his manipulative, loveless and emotionally abusive relationships with those around him, particularly his wife and son.  The central character, Gregor Antonescu, was modeled on Swedish businessman Ivar Kreuger, Italian pyramid-scheme creator Charles Ponzi and American investor Samuel Insull, although during Roundabout's 2011 revival the press drew parallels with current newsmaker Bernard Madoff and his failed investment scheme.
