Written in 1977 and based on Howard Hawks' 1934 play Twentieth Century and the film of the same name, On the 20th Century the musical is part operetta and part screwball comedy.  It tells the madcap romance story of theatre producer Oscar Jaffe and the mousy piano player Mildred Plotka who he transformed into starlet Lily Garland (and had an affair with), only to have her run off to grand success in Hollywood leaving him in the dust. Their paths cross again on the luxury train the Twentieth Century, en route from Chicago to New York City--characters abound on the train (including the wealthy and religious "nut" Letitia Primrose whose fortune is wooed by all), deals are made, anger and love are rekindled and it all turns into a happy ending by the finale.

This production featured four tap-dancing porters choreographed by Warren Carlyle.
