Biography
Sharon D Clarke is a British theatre and television actress and singer. In 2017, she was awarded an M.B.E in The Queen's New Years’ Honours List for Services to Drama. Her theatre work includes: Blues in the Night (Kiln Theatre), Death of a Salesman (Young Vic), Caroline, or Change (Olivier Award, Chichester Festival Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Playhouse Theatre), The Life(Southwark Playhouse), Sleeping Beauty, Vagina Monologues, Sleeping Beauty, Mother Goose, Puss in Boots & Cinderella(Hackney Empire), Pigs and Dogs (Royal Court Theatre), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Best Revival Olivier Award), An Oak Tree, Everyman, Amen Corner (Olivier Award), Guys and Dolls(National Theatre), Romeo & Juliet (Rose Theatre Kingston), Porgy & Bess (Regent’s Park Open Air), Ghost, Hairspray, Vagina Monologues, Chicago, We Will Rock You, Disney’s The Lion King, Fame, Rent and Mama I Want to Sing(West End). She is most popularly known for her role in the BBC medical drama HolbyCity in which she played Dr. Lola Griffin and received The Screen Nation Award for Best Female Performance on TV. Her other television work includes Informer, Doctor Who, The Forge, Unforgotten, Death in Paradise, New Tricks, Psychobitches and The Shadow Line; and for film, Untitled Girls Film, Rocketman, Past Caring, Tau, Sugarhouse, Secret Society, Beautiful People, Broken Glass and Tumble Down. She has appeared as guest artist with the BBCConcertOrchestra broadcast on BBC Radio many times, on the IanFlemingJamesBond tribute and CelebrationofLaughter with Ken Dodd both at The Palladium London and with her choir ‘Hackney Empire Community Choir’ at The Royal Festival Hall as part of the WOW (Women of The World)Festival. As a vocalist, Sharon has also achieved chart success with the FPI Project's remake of GoingBacktoMyRoots, Happiness with Serious Rope and as Nomad with the singles (IWannaGiveYou)Devotion and Just a Groove. She was part of the female vocal group Sixchix, formed for theEurovisionSongContest2000. Her latest solo show "GottaSingMySong" with West End musical director Mark Dickman, premiered at St James Theatre, and has gone on to The Pheasantry, The Hideaway, The Orange Tree, Hampstead Theatre and The Hippodrome.
